Tackling the Holly
This week, we were asked to clear some holly trees. This required tools and therefore slightly more brain power than the bracken bash we did a few weeks back.

Cumbria Woodlands. The Saga Continues
For those who tune in to WCH weekly, you may be aware that we don’t just sell t-shirts. For those new readers, we also quite like to get out in the field (or woodland) and get stuck in with some environmental work, to improve conditions of our very own local area.

The grind don’t stop!
This week, our task was to build a fence around the area we coppiced, to ensure the old shrubs are untouched and can flourish in the forest. The weather was grim but the mood was high, so we got to work assisting the Coppice Co-op and Cumbria Woodlands.

Are the products listed as sustainable, 100% impact free?
No, however they have been made with sustainability as a key concern. Any product that seeks to reduce its adverse environmental impact in design and production will be listed as sustainable.
For example, using recycled materials, organic cotton, reduced water usage, natural dyes and chemicals or vegan approved.
Why do you call the products sustainable-ish?
Economic
- It is vital as a business we have economic balance. The business must generate profit to be sustainable.
Environmental
- We can balance our economic choices with reduced negative impacts on the environment. Choosing products made with environment solution at their heart is the first step.
Social Contract
- In both areas we make positive choices to employ our social contract. We operate with the approval of employees, stakeholders and the community.
Do you seek to make profit from the environmental movement?
Working Class Heroes is a business and will seek to generate profit. If customers chose to buy more sustainable products, we will respond by increasing the offering of these products whilst reducing the non-sustainable.
We recommend you buy less, and with sustainability as a key concern. But it's your call.
What criteria do you have before deciding a product is sustainable-ish?
One of 7 criteria are required to qualify for sustainable-ish.
- Made from organic cotton
- Made from recycled materials
- Vegan approved (footwear only)
- Uses environmentally neutral chemicals or dyes
- bluesign® approved
- Uses Fair Trade Certified™ production
- When we use 1% of the sale to fund our own environmental project
